Apple plans to sell refurbish iPhone in India

Apple is becoming fastest up-coming brand in India, sales has shown incredible escalation in past years, this growth has gained Tim Cook's(Apple CEO) interest in India's Smartphone Market. Hence, he looks upon India as ideal marketplace for Apple's potential growth in Smartphone sector.

Refurbish iPhone includes current models which are often returned by the customer. These defected iPhone are then sent to the factory, where they are repaired. Testing is done to certify its condition. New IMEI number and warranty is also provided to these iPhone, hence these phones are launched in the markets with a new identity.

Selling refurbish iPhone in India can turn into a success because Indian smartphone buyers are interested in buying iPhone with such a discounted price.

In India, average selling price of the smartphone comes in the range of 15k-30k. Selling refurbished phone under this margin can work perfectly for Apple. Most of the people in India desires to own an apple iPhone, but die to high cost very few are able to afford it. If Apple is able to sell their refurbish iPhone under this range then, this step can become a huge success. With brand value that Apple has, it can easily grab 40% of smartphone market under this margin.

There is a high odds against Apple that Government of India may not allow Apple to sell their refurbish phone in India, PM Modi's vision is "MakeInIndia", selling refurbish phones in India rather then making iPhone manufacturing plants in India is completely not in favor of BJP Government's policy. Plus, these old phone will going to generate lots of e-waste in India.

BJP Government may also face strong lobby from rival brands against Apple, since this is against "MakeInIndia", rival lobby may try to convince PM Modi to reject TIM COOK plans.

TIM Cook hopes to get fair hearing and government allowing Apple to sell refurbish phone in India.
